President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday ordered the immediate deployment of an army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area in Kwara State following a deadly overnight attack by Boko Haram terrorists in Worro village.
The President announced that the newly deployed military unit will spearhead Operation Savannah Shield, aimed at neutralizing the terrorists and safeguarding vulnerable communities from further attacks.
Describing the assault as “cowardly and beastly,” Tinubu condemned the gunmen for targeting unarmed villagers. He noted that the victims were killed after rejecting the extremists’ attempts to indoctrinate them, choosing instead a peaceful practice of Islam free from violence.
“It is commendable that the community members, even though Muslims, refused to be conscripted into a belief that promotes violence over peace and dialogue,” the President said.
Tinubu further called for a coordinated response between federal and state agencies to provide immediate relief to survivors, assist the bereaved families, and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Expressing deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives, the President prayed for the repose of the deceased and condoled with the families affected. He also extended his condolences to the people and government of Kwara State.
Security analysts say the deployment of a dedicated battalion reflects the administration’s intensified approach to combating terrorist activities in northern Nigeria, where insurgent groups have continued to target soft and rural communities. Operation Savannah Shield is expected to combine intelligence gathering, community engagement, and targeted military interventions to prevent future attacks.
Kwara State authorities have expressed gratitude for the federal government’s swift response and pledged to support the army’s operations on the ground. Local residents, while mourning their losses, have called for greater security presence and urgent humanitarian assistance to affected families.
The attack in Worro village marks one of several recent incidents in which Boko Haram has targeted communities resisting extremist indoctrination. President Tinubu’s swift intervention signals a firm federal stance against terrorism and emphasizes the government’s commitment to protecting citizens and restoring peace in affected regions.
