President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Abagun Kole Omololu, a leading chieftain of the Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, on the occasion of his 70th birthday, describing him as a principled leader whose life has been marked by integrity, loyalty and steadfast commitment to nation-building.
In a goodwill message issued to mark the milestone on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, the President praised Abagun Omololu for his decades-long dedication to the promotion of democracy, good governance and unity within Yorubaland and the country at large.
President Tinubu noted that Abagun Omololu played a prominent role in Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle, particularly during the dark days of military rule. He recalled that the Afenifere chieftain was an active member of NADECO Abroad, where he helped internationalise the campaign for the validation of the June 12, 1993 presidential election and the restoration of democratic governance in Nigeria.

According to the President, Abagun Omololu has remained consistent in his advocacy for Yoruba unity and cultural preservation, adding that his continued involvement in Idile Oodua underscores his lifelong commitment to the ideals and collective interests of the Yoruba people.
Tinubu further commended Abagun Omololu’s role within Afenifere, describing his principled stance on national and regional issues, as well as his unwavering support for the leadership of Chief Reuben Fasoranti, as exemplary. He said such qualities have earned the elder statesman respect across political and ideological lines.
The President also acknowledged Abagun Omololu’s well-known support for his administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda, describing it as a reflection of his belief in progressive governance and national renewal.
As the Afenifere chieftain attains what he described as the biblical age of three score and ten, President Tinubu prayed for God’s continued grace, wisdom and good health for Abagun Kole Omololu, wishing him many more years of purposeful service to his people and the nation.
