Vice President Kashim Shettima has called for the adoption of global quality standards in the production of Made-in-Nigeria goods, stressing that competitiveness in international markets depends on strict adherence to excellence.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ forum on industrial growth in Abuja, Shettima said Nigeria must reposition its manufacturing sector to meet global benchmarks if it hopes to expand exports and strengthen its economy.
He noted that while local production has improved in recent years, inconsistent quality continues to hinder the global acceptance of Nigerian products. According to him, aligning with international standards would not only boost exports but also attract foreign investment.
Shettima emphasized the role of regulatory agencies in ensuring compliance, urging them to intensify monitoring and enforcement. He also called on manufacturers to prioritize quality control and innovation.
The Vice President highlighted the importance of partnerships between government and the private sector, noting that sustainable industrial growth requires collective effort. He assured stakeholders of the federal government’s commitment to providing the necessary support, including infrastructure and policy incentives.

Industry leaders at the event welcomed the move, describing it as timely amid growing competition in global markets. They, however, urged the government to address challenges such as power supply, access to finance, and logistics.
Shettima concluded by reiterating that Nigeria has the potential to become a major manufacturing hub in Africa if the right standards and systems are put in place.
