The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced the permanent cancellation of the Monday sit-at-home across Nigeria’s South-East region, effective from Monday, February 9, 2026.

The directive was communicated on Sunday through a statement by IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful, who said the decision came directly from the group’s “supreme leader,” Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“The Monday sit-at-home across the South-East is officially and permanently cancelled with effect from tomorrow, Monday, February 9, 2026,” the statement read.

IPOB’s sit-at-home orders, previously enforced on Mondays, have long disrupted business activities and daily life across the region, drawing criticism from local communities and government authorities.

The announcement is expected to restore normalcy to the South-East, allowing schools, markets, and businesses to operate without restrictions on Mondays.

Authorities and residents in the region have yet to issue official reactions to IPOB’s cancellation, but the move is likely to be welcomed by traders and commuters affected by the weekly shutdowns.
