The Federal Government has launched a National Single Window platform aimed at speeding up cargo clearance at Nigerian ports and reducing delays that have long affected trade and business operations.
The initiative, unveiled in Abuja by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, is designed to integrate all government agencies involved in cargo processing into a single digital platform.
Officials said the system will allow importers, exporters, and shipping companies to submit documents electronically, eliminating multiple procedures and cutting down the time required to clear goods at the ports.
According to the minister, the reform is part of broader efforts by the Tinubu administration to modernize port operations, improve efficiency, and make Nigeria more competitive in international trade.
He noted that delays at the ports have contributed to high costs of doing business, congestion, and loss of revenue, adding that the Single Window would address these challenges.

Under the new system, agencies such as the Nigeria Customs Service, Nigerian Ports Authority, and other regulatory bodies will operate on a shared platform, enabling faster verification and approval processes.
Government officials said the platform is expected to significantly reduce human contact in cargo processing, thereby limiting opportunities for corruption.
The Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, described the initiative as a major step toward improving the ease of doing business in Nigeria and attracting more investors.
He explained that efficient port operations are critical to economic growth, as a large percentage of goods used in the country are imported through seaports.
Industry stakeholders welcomed the reform but urged the government to ensure proper training of personnel and reliable internet infrastructure to make the system effective.
Experts believe that if fully implemented, the Single Window could reduce cargo clearance time from several weeks to a few days, saving billions of naira annually.
The government said pilot operations will begin soon, with full nationwide implementation expected in phases.
