A 31-year-old woman Yetunde Modupeola Dada-Babajide, narrowly escaped being kidnapped in Lagos by suspected Islamic fundamentalits.

The abduction which happened on October 15, 2025 in the Ikosi Katu area of the state saw some armed hoodlums in Muslims regalias attempting to force Yetunde Modupeola Babajide into a waiting van parked in front of her uncle’s house.

Eye witnesses said that attempts to forcibly put her into the van and her resistance, alerted vigilant neighbors who moved in to rescue her.

Investigations revealed that Yetunde’s ordeal started when she decided to change her religious beliefs from Islam to Christianity, a move vehemently rejected by her partner Malam Fatai Tairu Dada, who reportedly did all he could to persuade his wife to change her mind.

It was learnt that when that failed, he began to openly threatened to kill her should she insist on sticking to her new found faith, a situation that caused Yetunde to report the threats to the police in Kwara.

Before the police could do anything it was learned, credible intelligence reached her that the decision to kill her had been made after the Friday congregational prayers.

The knowledge of her life being in danger because of her new religious orientation, forced her to run out of their home in Ilorin, Kwara State, and travelled to be with her uncle, Kunle Babajide who lived in Lagos.

Dada’s desperation to cause his estranged partner to return to the Islamic fold or be killed, reportedly caused him to recruit the hoodlums who traced her from Ilorin to Lagos in their bid to kill her for changing her faith.

Luck however ran against them when a curious taxi driver observed a violent scuffle and raised an alarm that attracted neighbors in the street while the hoodlums escaped.

The post attack trauma suffered by the pregnant Yetunde led to severe bleeding and eventual loss of the pregnancy.

The matter has been reported to the police in Lagos which have commenced investigation to unravel the circumstances of the incidents.
