Former Super Eagles head coach, Sunday Oliseh, has opened up on the challenges he faced during his tenure with Nigeria’s senior men’s national football team, describing the experience as one of the most demanding periods of his career.
Oliseh, a former international and captain of the national team, said his time as coach was marked by administrative difficulties, player disputes, and structural issues within Nigerian football. He noted that technical work on the pitch was often overshadowed by off-field problems.
According to him, inconsistent support and interference made it difficult to implement long-term plans aimed at rebuilding the team. He said decisions taken in the best interest of discipline and professionalism were sometimes misinterpreted or resisted.
Oliseh also reflected on his vision for youth development and tactical evolution, lamenting that systemic challenges limited the full execution of those ideas. Despite the difficulties, he said he remains proud of the team’s achievements during his tenure.

Oliseh concluded by expressing hope that lessons from the past would help shape a stronger future for the Super Eagles.
