President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee (NTPIC), a key body mandated to coordinate the rollout of the administration’s new tax laws and strengthen the country’s fiscal framework.

Chaired by renowned tax and finance expert Joseph Tegbe, the committee is expected to guide the implementation of the government’s tax reforms in line with its broader economic goals. Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, will supervise its operations.

The committee will conduct wide ranging consultations with stakeholders in the public and private sectors to ensure broad participation in shaping how the reforms take effect.

Tegbe, a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, brings more than three decades of experience, including his tenure as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa.

Special Adviser to the President on Finance and Economy, Sanyade Okoli, will serve as secretary of the committee, which also includes Ismaeel Ahmed, Rukaiya El-Rufai, and several other seasoned professionals.

President Tinubu said the committee’s work is central to advancing his administration’s economic transformation plan. He described the new tax laws as part of a broader effort to build a fair, transparent, and technology-driven tax system that supports growth while protecting citizens and businesses.

He added that the NTPIC will ensure seamless, well coordinated implementation across federal and subnational levels.

The committee’s mandate includes nationwide engagement with professional bodies, industry players, and state governments, as well as public awareness campaigns to support a smooth transition to the new laws.

It will also work to tighten inter-agency coordination by aligning the activities of key revenue and regulatory bodies and harmonising existing frameworks with the updated statutes.

Tegbe said the committee is prepared to work diligently to support national development, noting that the team will collaborate closely with stakeholders to build trust in the evolving tax system.

Finance Minister Edun described the committee’s launch as a pivotal step toward resetting the country’s fiscal policy framework and positioning the economy for significant growth.

The NTPIC is expected to boost revenue mobilisation, plug leakages, and reinforce accountability as the government works to strengthen fiscal sustainability and advance its development agenda.
