Folasade Tinubu-Ojo

Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, daughter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, on Tuesday received a Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of the President at the Ondo State 50th Anniversary Award and Gala Night held in Akure.

The award ceremony took place at the International Cultural and Event Centre, popularly known as The Dome, as part of activities commemorating the golden jubilee of Ondo State. The event brought together political leaders, captains of industry, traditional rulers and dignitaries from across the country.

Presenting the award, Ondo State Governor, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, said the honour was in recognition of President Tinubu’s decades of service to Nigeria and his enduring influence on the country’s political and democratic evolution. He noted that the President’s contributions, spanning more than 30 years, have played a critical role in shaping modern governance, strengthening democratic institutions and advancing national development.

Governor Aiyedatiwa described President Tinubu as a statesman whose leadership and reforms have left a lasting imprint on Nigeria’s political landscape, adding that the award was Ondo State’s way of acknowledging his commitment to national unity and progress.

Receiving the award on behalf of her father, Tinubu-Ojo expressed gratitude to the Ondo State Government and people for the recognition, describing it as a profound honour. She said the award reflected President Tinubu’s lifelong dedication to public service and his belief in building institutions that support economic growth and inclusive development.

She also used the occasion to acknowledge the role of mentors and associates who have contributed to the President’s journey, stressing the importance of integrity, resilience and service in leadership.

During the gala night, Tinubu-Ojo also accompanied Chief Pius Olu Akinyelure to receive his own Lifetime Achievement Award. She described Chief Akinyelure as a long-standing family friend and elder, noting that their relationship with the Tinubu family dates back more than four decades.

According to her, Chief Akinyelure played a pivotal role in President Tinubu’s early professional life, having interviewed and employed him at Mobil Nigeria, a relationship that has remained cordial over the years.

Chief Akinyelure, an accomplished oil industry veteran and political leader from Ondo State, has held several prominent positions, including Chairman of NNPC Limited and National Vice Chairman (South-West) of the All Progressives Congress. He is widely regarded for his contributions to the energy sector and commitment to national development.

The award ceremony marked a major highlight of Ondo State’s 50th anniversary celebrations, underscoring the state’s recognition of individuals whose contributions have shaped Nigeria’s growth and governance.
