President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, to participate in the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), where he is expected to advance Nigeria’s push for renewable energy partnerships and sustainable development financing.
The President’s aircraft touched down at the Zayed International Airport at about 11:30 p.m. local time. He was received by the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Shakhboot Nahyan Al Nahyan; the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi; Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar; and members of the Nigerian diplomatic mission in Abu Dhabi.
Other senior Nigerian officials, including the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu; the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed, later welcomed the President at his hotel.
President Tinubu is attending the global summit at the official invitation of the President of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The visit highlights growing diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and the UAE, with a particular focus on green energy, infrastructure development, and investment cooperation.
ADSW is a premier annual international forum that convenes world leaders, policymakers, industry experts, investors, and civil society actors to deliberate on climate change, clean energy innovation, and sustainable economic growth. Discussions at the summit are expected to centre on energy transition strategies and the financial architecture required to support large-scale renewable energy deployment, especially in developing economies.
During the summit, President Tinubu is expected to engage in high-level meetings aimed at positioning Nigeria as a leading destination for clean energy investment in Africa. Officials say the President will seek partnerships that support Nigeria’s energy transition agenda, expand access to sustainable power, and align with the country’s broader national growth and industrialisation objectives.
The President arrived in Abu Dhabi from Europe, where he spent part of his end-of-year break and held bilateral engagements with Rwandan President Paul Kagame and French President Emmanuel Macron. Those discussions reportedly focused on regional stability, economic cooperation, and international partnerships.

The 2026 edition of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week is themed “The Nexus of Next: All Systems Go.” The theme emphasises closing the gap between climate ambition and practical action, structured around three core pillars: innovation, finance, and people.
Nigeria’s participation at the summit comes amid renewed efforts by the Tinubu administration to diversify the economy, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and attract foreign capital into critical sectors. Government officials believe engagements at ADSW will further strengthen Nigeria’s global profile as it pursues sustainable development and long-term energy security.
