Electricity supply has been restored to Taraba State after weeks of darkness following a prolonged outage that disrupted economic activities and daily life across the state.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed the restoration on Tuesday, stating that power was returned after the successful completion of emergency repair works on damaged transmission infrastructure supplying the state. The outage had been caused by a combination of technical faults and vandalism along critical transmission lines.

According to TCN, engineers worked round the clock to replace collapsed towers and repair affected sections of the network, despite challenging terrain and security concerns. “We are pleased to announce that bulk power supply to Taraba State has been fully restored,” the company said in a statement.

Residents and business owners welcomed the development, describing the outage as one of the longest in recent years. Small-scale enterprises, hospitals and water supply facilities were among the hardest hit, with many forced to rely on costly generators to stay afloat.

Taraba State officials said the blackout had strained public services and slowed economic activities, particularly in Jalingo and surrounding communities. The state government had repeatedly appealed to federal authorities to expedite repairs.

TCN assured consumers that measures have been put in place to improve system stability and prevent a recurrence. These include increased surveillance of transmission assets and collaboration with security agencies to curb vandalism.

Power distribution companies operating in the area also confirmed that they had commenced gradual load allocation to ensure safe and steady supply to consumers.

Energy experts, however, warned that frequent outages highlight the fragility of Nigeria’s transmission network and the urgent need for sustained investment and protection of critical infrastructure.

For residents of Taraba, the return of electricity brings relief and renewed hope that the state can resume normal economic and social activities after weeks of disruption.
