Uganda, one of Super Eagles’ Group C opponents at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), has unveiled its 30-man provisional squad ahead of the tournament. The announcement was made by head coach Paul Put, the Belgian tactician leading the Cranes into their continental campaign.
The squad includes four goalkeepers, nine defenders, five midfielders, and 16 forwards, reflecting the coach’s attacking-minded strategy. The players are set to leave Entebbe today for the final phase of their preparations ahead of the tournament.
Coach Put will trim the squad to 28 players by December 11, in line with CAF regulations. “The players on this list have shown quality, commitment, and versatility,” Put said. “Our goal is to finalize a squad that can compete at the highest level and give Uganda the best chance to advance from the group stage.”
Uganda has been drawn in Group C alongside Nigeria, Tunisia, and Tanzania. They are scheduled to face Tunisia, popularly known as the Carthage Eagles, in their opening fixture, before taking on Tanzania and the Super Eagles.
The provisional squad reflects a mix of experienced internationals and promising young talent. While the defensive line is expected to provide stability, the large contingent of forwards signals a strategy focused on pace and offensive firepower. Analysts say Uganda will likely seek to play counter-attacking football against technically stronger opponents like Nigeria and Tunisia.

Preparations are already underway in Entebbe, with training sessions emphasizing tactical discipline, fitness, and set-piece routines. Team management has also arranged friendly matches and intensive camps to ensure the squad gels before heading to the tournament venue.
For Uganda, the tournament presents both challenges and opportunities. Historically, the Cranes have struggled to advance beyond the group stages, but recent investments in youth development and the inclusion of overseas based players have increased expectations. Coach Put’s experience and strategic approach are seen as key assets as Uganda aims to make a mark in AFCON 2025.
With the official squad announcement looming on December 11, attention will now turn to which players will make the final cut. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see how Uganda’s attacking-heavy squad will perform in a competitive group featuring three strong opponents.
The stage is set for a compelling Group C battle, and all eyes will be on Uganda as they seek to upset the established order and challenge the Super Eagles in one of Africa’s most prestigious football tournaments.
