President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) following the confirmation of its members by the Senate on December 16.

Under the new composition, Dr Mulisiu Olalekan Oseni has been appointed Chairman of the Commission. Oseni, who joined NERC as a Commissioner in January 2017 and later served as Vice Chairman, assumed his new role on December 1, 2025. His tenure as Chairman will run until the completion of his statutory ten-year term in line with the Electricity Act, 2023.

Dr Yusuf Ali was named Vice Chairman of the Commission. First appointed as a Commissioner in February 2022, his designation took effect from December 1, 2025, and will last until the end of his first term.

Other members of the reconstituted Board include Nathan Rogers Shatti and Dafe Akpeneye, both serving second terms after their initial appointments in January 2017; Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello, who is on her second term following her first appointment in December 2020; and Dr Chidi Ike, who is serving his first term after his appointment in February 2022.

The Board also includes Dr Fouad Animashaun, appointed for a first term effective December 2025. An energy economist, Animashaun brings extensive experience from the power sector and most recently served as Executive Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

President Tinubu has charged the reconstituted Board to deepen and consolidate ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s power sector, ensuring full compliance with the letter and spirit of the Electricity Act, 2023.

The reconstitution of the NERC Board is expected to strengthen regulatory oversight and support the Federal Government’s drive toward a more efficient, reliable, and sustainable electricity sector.
