The crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has deepened following criticism of a recent court verdict by senior party member Umar Sani, who described the ruling as damaging to internal democracy.

Sani, speaking to journalists, argued that the judgment had worsened divisions within the party and undermined ongoing reconciliation efforts. He warned that failure to address internal disputes could weaken the PDP ahead of future elections.

According to him, the party must prioritise unity and dialogue rather than prolonged legal battles. He urged leaders and stakeholders to explore political solutions that reflect the will of party members across states and zones.

The disputed verdict relates to leadership and organisational issues that have generated multiple factions within the PDP. Since the ruling, opposing camps have traded accusations, further straining internal cohesion.

Party sources say emergency consultations are ongoing to prevent a complete breakdown of trust among stakeholders. Some leaders have called for the intervention of the Board of Trustees to mediate the crisis.

Political analysts note that prolonged internal conflict could erode the PDP’s standing as Nigeria’s main opposition party, especially as the ruling party consolidates its position.

As tensions rise, party members are watching closely to see whether the leadership can navigate the crisis and restore unity ahead of critical political milestones.
