In a significant development ahead of the December 13 governorship primary in Osun State, the APC’s Screening Committee has disqualified former deputy governor Iyiola Omisore and six other aspirants from contesting.
The decision, released on December 4, 2025 after a two-day screening exercise chaired by Obinna Uzoh, followed findings that the seven aspirants failed to meet mandatory nomination requirements.
Specifically, they did not provide evidence of sponsorship by at least five fully registered and financially up-to-date party members from each Local Government Area of Osun State, as demanded under Articles 9.3(i) and 31.2(ii) of the APC Constitution and Paragraph 6(c) of the party’s guidelines.
Only two aspirants — Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and Munirudeen Bola Oyebanji — were cleared to participate in the primary after satisfying all constitutional and guideline conditions.
The screening committee said it acted on a petition from the “Osun APC Renewal Group,” which flagged alleged irregularities in the nomination process; it emphasized that the same scrutiny was applied uniformly to all nine aspirants to preserve internal democracy.
The disqualification has stirred controversy within the party, with critics describing the outcome as politically charged even as the matter may be subjected to appeal before the party’s National Working Committee.
