First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, World Hijab Day 2026

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on citizens, governments and stakeholders to embrace clean energy solutions as a critical pathway to environmental protection, healthy living and sustainable development.

In a message issued on Sunday to mark the International Day of Clean Energy 2026, observed globally on January 26, the First Lady stressed that the transition to renewable energy is no longer optional but a shared responsibility necessary for the survival of present and future generations.

The 2026 commemoration is themed “Clean Energy for People and Planet.” According to Senator Tinubu, the theme highlights the urgent need to align human progress with environmental sustainability, particularly at a time when climate change, pollution and energy insecurity continue to threaten livelihoods across the world.

“Today, as we commemorate the International Day of Clean Energy 2026, we are reminded of our shared responsibility to protect and preserve the environment in which we live,” she said.

The First Lady urged Nigerians to actively support and adopt renewable energy sources and sustainable technologies, noting that clean energy remains a cornerstone for national development, public health and environmental stewardship.

She emphasized that access to clean, affordable and reliable energy has far-reaching benefits, including reduced carbon emissions, improved air quality, job creation and enhanced economic resilience, especially for vulnerable communities.

Senator Tinubu further called for collective action involving government institutions, the private sector, civil society and individuals to accelerate Nigeria’s clean energy transition. She noted that such collaboration is vital to achieving a greener economy and meeting global climate commitments.

“Let us embrace renewable energy and sustainable technologies as an essential foundation for survival, healthy living and environmental stewardship,” she stated.

The International Day of Clean Energy was established by the United Nations to raise awareness about the importance of clean energy in addressing climate change and supporting sustainable development goals. The annual observance also seeks to encourage innovation and investment in renewable energy technologies such as solar, wind, hydro and other low-carbon solutions.

In her message, the First Lady reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to global efforts aimed at protecting the planet while improving the quality of life for people.

She concluded by encouraging unity of purpose in building a sustainable future, saying, “Let us work together to build a greener, healthier planet for all.”
