Senator Oluremi Tinubu

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on global education and technology stakeholders to ensure that human values remain at the center of technological advancement.

She made the remarks in Doha, Qatar, while addressing the “Education Above All” plenary at the 12th World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE).

Speaking before a global audience alongside First Ladies of Lebanon and Syria, Senator Tinubu warned that as the world accelerates deeper into the digital age, societies must ensure that technological innovation does not eclipse humanity.

“We should be the drivers of technology. Technology must lead, but we must not remove human values from technology,” she said.

The First Lady praised Qatar’s educational achievements and emphasized that no religion forbids girls from receiving education, reaffirming the Nigerian government’s commitment to making learning accessible to every child. She stressed that education remains the foundation for national growth.

“Everything begins with education. We are doing all we can as a government to advance the education sector. Nigeria has a huge human capital resource, and that is what we thrive on,” she stated.

She highlighted the global recognition Nigerian youths continue to earn across sectors including the arts, agriculture, technology, and entertainment adding that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu considers innovation and technology vital to developing Nigeria’s human capital.

Addressing the benefits and risks of digitalization, Senator Tinubu noted that digital literacy has helped Nigeria expand access to information, but also cautioned that young people must be guided to use technology responsibly. “We believe we would keep empowering the young ones in this area, and they would do better,” she assured.

Host of the summit and chairperson of Qatar Foundation, Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, emphasized the need for education to transform lives by connecting young people with future jobs. Other panelists echoed the call for human centered innovation, insisting that the rapid adoption of artificial intelligence must be governed by ethics and values.

Held under the theme Humanity.IO: Human Values at the Heart of Education, the 12th edition of WISE convened more than 150,000 participants from around the world, all united by a shared goal of redefining education to meet the demands of an evolving global landscape.
