The National Sports Commission (NSC) says it is finalizing plans to approve an official Flag Football Federation for Nigeria, with elections for its executive leadership expected to take place immediately after the federation’s inauguration.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Commission stressed that no association or group local or international has been recognized to represent Nigeria in any flag football activity or competition. It also reaffirmed that only the NSC has the legal mandate to approve, regulate, and oversee sports federations in the country.

The Director General of the NSC noted that the Commission is currently engaging with stakeholders to establish a unified governing body for the sport.

He said the Commission values the input of all interest groups and is working toward a structure that meets international standards and aligns with national sports development goals.

According to him, the process of formal recognition is still underway, and no final decision has been made.

The NSC assured athletes, coaches, organizations, and international partners that the new federation will be founded on transparency and inclusiveness to ensure credible representation of Nigeria in global flag football competitions.

Further details on the election timetable, membership guidelines, and transition procedures will be announced in the coming days, the statement added.
