The road to the 2nd African School Games, Abuja 2027, gained fresh momentum as Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), Mr. Lanre (Lekan) Abari, met with top officials of the National Sports Commission (NSC) to align strategies and accelerate preparations for the continent-wide youth sporting event.

At the strategic meeting, the LOC Chairman was received by an NSC delegation led by its Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, and the Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade. Discussions focused on key milestones, infrastructural readiness, and collaborative frameworks ahead of Nigeria hosting the rest of Africa in 2027.

Hon. Olopade reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to ensuring that Abuja delivers a world-class event worthy of Africa’s next generation of sporting champions.

“The African School Games represent the future of youth sports development on the continent, and Nigeria is ready to lead from the front,” said Hon. Bukola Olopade, NSC Director General.

“The NSC will provide every necessary support to the Local Organizing Committee to ensure that Abuja 2027 sets a new benchmark for excellence, participation, and continental unity.”

LOC Chairman Lekan Abari expressed confidence in Nigeria’s ability to host a memorable second edition of the Games, emphasizing the LOC’s readiness to move quickly from planning to execution.

“Abuja 2027 will be a moment of pride for Nigeria, a stage where we showcase our hospitality, our unity, and the vast potential of our young athletes,” said Mr. Abari. “With the inauguration now behind us, we will hit the ground running and deliver Games that every Nigerian and every African child can be proud of.”

A respected high-profile executive with a distinguished career in both private and public sectors, Lekan Abari is known for his ability to enhance organizational efficiency through strong leadership, strategic planning, and operational excellence.

Recently, he served as Chairman of the Oyo State Gaming Board, earning a reputation as an outstanding people-focused leader who inspires loyalty and drives results.

He attended Westminster College, where he received a Diploma in Information Technology, and holds a first degree from the University of Lagos.
