Pesident Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja on Monday, January 26, for a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye, as Nigeria moves to deepen bilateral ties and expand cooperation in key sectors including security, education, innovation, social development and aviation.
According to a State House press release, the visit will feature high-level political and diplomatic engagements between both countries, with discussions expected to cover finance, communications, trade and investment. Several memoranda of understanding are also scheduled to be signed, covering areas such as scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media and communications, military collaboration and protocol.
A Nigeria–Türkiye business forum will be held during the visit, bringing together investors from both countries to explore new opportunities and partnerships, especially in sectors with strong growth potential.
The visit follows the official trip by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Nigeria in October 2021, which laid the groundwork for closer diplomatic and economic relations between the two nations.
Members of President Tinubu’s delegation include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd); and Chairman, House Committee on Defence, Hon. Jimi Benson.
Others on the entourage are the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu; and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.
President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria at the conclusion of the state visit.
