The Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) has moved to deepen international collaboration in sports development as it hosted a high-level delegation from British Cycling for talks focused on knowledge exchange and skill transfer.
The visit, led by British Cycling’s Sport and Participation Director, Ms. Amy Gardner, explored areas of cooperation aimed at boosting technical capacity, institutional competence and cycling culture in Lagos State.
Director General of the Commission, Mr. Lekan Fatodu, said the engagement aligns with Lagos State’s broader strategy of using sports as a tool for diplomacy, development and sustainable growth. He noted that the partnership would help adapt global best practices to local realities, benefiting athletes, coaches, administrators and recreational cyclists.
Fatodu attributed the Commission’s growing international outlook to the policy direction and institutional support of the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration, which he said has positioned Lagos to engage credibly with global partners.
Ms. Gardner commended the Commission’s openness and clarity of purpose, describing Lagos as a promising partner for value-driven collaboration through shared learning, commercial opportunities and long-term cycling development.
Both sides agreed to work towards a structured partnership framework covering exchange programmes, technical workshops and joint development initiatives, as Lagos continues efforts to strengthen its profile as a leading sports hub in Africa.
