The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has revealed that he is simultaneously pursuing university studies while fulfilling his royal responsibilities.

Speaking after attending a lecture on Thursday, the 16th Emir of Kano said he plans to balance his academic ambitions with his duties as Emir, highlighting a unique approach to leadership and personal development.

“I am a student in the morning and an Emir in the afternoon. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are for classes, while Mondays and Fridays I sit at normal hours,” Sanusi explained, detailing how he intends to manage both roles.

Despite already holding advanced degrees, including a PhD, Sanusi said he has long harbored a desire to study law, prompting his recent enrolment in higher education.

Observers note that the Emir’s decision reflects a growing trend among traditional leaders to engage directly in academic and professional pursuits alongside their ceremonial and administrative roles.

Sanusi’s schedule demonstrates a deliberate effort to prioritize education without compromising his obligations to the Kano Emirate, signaling a modern approach to combining tradition with personal growth.
