Former lawmakers of the National Assembly have formally announced their support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
The declaration was made during the 2026 National Summit of Former Legislators held in Abuja on Saturday, January 24. The summit, themed “National Unity and Nation Building: Beyond 2031,” was organised by the National Forum of Former Legislators (NFFL), with the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, serving as the convener.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, who led the endorsement, stated that re-electing President Tinubu would ensure the full implementation of his comprehensive reform agenda aimed at the positive transformation of Nigeria and its citizens.

Jibrin described the former legislators’ support as a reaffirmation of confidence in Tinubu’s leadership and a commitment to sustaining policies that promote national development and unity.
The summit brought together former members of both chambers of the National Assembly to discuss national priorities, governance, and the political trajectory of the country ahead of the 2027 elections. Organisers emphasised the importance of leveraging the experience of past lawmakers to guide current policy and strengthen democratic institutions.
By publicly backing Tinubu, the former legislators are positioning themselves as key allies in the ruling party’s bid for a second term, highlighting continuity in governance and the perceived need to consolidate ongoing reforms across sectors such as the economy, security, and infrastructure.
The announcement is expected to energise the ruling party’s base and shape early political narratives as Nigeria approaches the next general elections.
