With just five days to the opening ceremony, Abeokuta, Ogun State, is finalising preparations to host the inaugural West Africa Zone A and B Para Games, a landmark event set to showcase top para athletes from across the sub-region.
The competition, scheduled for November 26 to December 4, will take place at the Moshood Abiola Sports Arena, further positioning the city as a rising hub for African sports.
The maiden edition will feature 10 para sports, including Amputee Football, Para Swimming, Para Powerlifting, Para Table Tennis, Wheelchair Basketball, Sitting Volleyball, Para Canoeing, Wheelchair Tennis, and Para Badminton. Organisers say the lineup reflects the growing depth, talent, and competitive strength of para sports in West Africa.
Regional sporting bodies describe the Games as a major step toward fostering unity, promoting inclusion, and expanding opportunities for athletes with disabilities to compete on an international platform. With delegations from multiple countries expected to arrive in the coming days, the event is projected to draw significant attention across the continent.

Local organisers have assured that all logistics, accommodation arrangements, and security protocols are fully in place. They emphasised that Abeokuta is prepared to deliver a world class championship that will inspire future editions and strengthen the region’s para sports ecosystem.
As anticipation builds across West Africa, the historic first edition of the Games is set to spotlight exceptional athleticism, resilience, and the shared commitment to advancing disability sports in the sub region.
