The Federal Government has inaugurated a new national grid reform committee as part of renewed efforts to fix Nigeria’s troubled electricity sector.
The committee, set up by the Federal Ministry of Power, is expected to review the country’s transmission system and recommend urgent measures to improve stability.
Nigeria has experienced repeated grid collapses in recent years, leading to widespread blackouts and public frustration.

Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu said the committee will focus on upgrading infrastructure, strengthening transmission capacity and improving coordination among electricity operators.
He noted that the current grid is overstretched and requires major investment to meet growing demand.
The committee includes engineers, energy experts and representatives of generation and distribution companies.
Officials said the panel will submit recommendations within three months.
The government has faced criticism over persistent power outages despite repeated promises of reform.
Business groups say unreliable electricity continues to slow economic growth and increase production costs.
The minister said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to solving the problem through private sector participation and improved regulation.
He added that new transmission projects and renewable energy initiatives are already in progress.
Analysts say the success of the committee will depend on funding, political will and cooperation among stakeholders.
