World football governing body FIFA has rejected a petition filed by the Super Eagles following their disputed World Cup qualifying match against DR Congo national team.

The Nigerian team had lodged a complaint after the match, alleging officiating errors and irregularities that they claimed affected the outcome. The petition asked FIFA to review the result or order a replay.

In a statement released on Tuesday, FIFA said its disciplinary committee examined the complaint but found no sufficient evidence to overturn the match result. The body added that refereeing decisions, except in cases of proven misconduct, cannot be changed after the game.

Officials of the Nigeria Football Federation expressed disappointment with the decision but said the team would move forward and focus on remaining fixtures in the qualification campaign.

Football analysts say the ruling is a setback for Nigeria’s hopes of securing a place at the next FIFA World Cup, as the lost points could prove decisive in the group standings.

Supporters reacted with mixed feelings, with some criticizing the team’s performance while others blamed officiating decisions for the outcome.

Despite the setback, the coaching crew insisted the team still has a chance to qualify if it wins its remaining matches. Players have also called on fans to continue supporting the squad as the campaign continues.

The decision means the result of the match will stand, leaving Nigeria with a tougher path to reach the tournament.
