The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has returned the sum of N387 million to the Jigawa State Government, describing the money as part of funds recovered from corruption cases linked to former public officials.

The anti-graft agency handed over the cheque to Governor Umar Namadi during a brief ceremony at the Government House in Dutse. EFCC officials said the refund followed the conclusion of investigations and court processes that confirmed the funds belonged to the state.

Speaking at the event, the EFCC representative said the commission remains committed to ensuring that stolen public resources are returned to their rightful owners. He added that the agency would continue to pursue corruption cases vigorously, regardless of the status of those involved.

Governor Namadi thanked the commission for the recovery, noting that the funds would be used to support infrastructure, education, and healthcare projects in the state. He described the refund as a boost to the administration’s efforts to deliver development despite limited resources.

The governor also called for stronger collaboration between state governments and anti-corruption agencies to prevent misuse of public funds.

Analysts say the refund highlights ongoing efforts by the EFCC under the leadership of Ola Olukoyede to strengthen accountability in public service.

The commission has in recent months announced several recoveries across different states, part of a broader campaign to demonstrate transparency and restore public confidence in government institutions.

Observers believe that returning recovered assets directly to affected states could encourage greater cooperation with anti-corruption investigations while ensuring that the funds are used for public benefit.
