President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in the United Kingdom for a two-day state visit at the invitation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, in a trip aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between both nations.

The presidential aircraft conveying Tinubu and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, touched down at London Stansted Airport at about 3:18 p.m. on Tuesday, where the Nigerian leader was received by senior British and Nigerian officials.

On behalf of the Royal Family, the Deputy Lieutenant of Essex, Mark Bevan, welcomed the President on arrival, alongside Nigeria’s acting High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Mohammed Maidugu, and other diplomatic representatives.

Also present to receive the President were members of the Nigerian delegation, including senators, governors and ministers who had arrived earlier for the visit.

According to officials, President Tinubu and his wife will be hosted at Windsor Castle from Wednesday, March 18, to Thursday, March 19, as part of the formal activities lined up for the state visit.

The visit is expected to focus on strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, with discussions centered on trade, investment, security cooperation and cultural exchange.

Presidential sources said the trip will also provide an opportunity for the Nigerian leader to meet with British government officials and business leaders to explore new investment opportunities, particularly in infrastructure, energy, technology and the creative industry.

The visit marks one of the major diplomatic engagements for President Tinubu this year and is seen as part of ongoing efforts by his administration to attract foreign investment and deepen international partnerships to support Nigeria’s economic reforms.

Officials noted that both countries share longstanding historical and economic ties, with the United Kingdom remaining one of Nigeria’s key trading partners and a major destination for Nigerian students and professionals.

During the visit, President Tinubu is also expected to participate in meetings with investors and attend official receptions organised in his honour, while the First Lady will join engagements focused on social development and cultural cooperation.

Government officials expressed optimism that the visit would open new areas of collaboration and further strengthen relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
