Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have arrested five suspected armed robbers in Ibadan and recovered several items believed to have been stolen during robbery operations.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Olayinka Ayanlade.

According to Ayanlade, the suspects were apprehended during a series of intelligence-led operations carried out by officers of the command in parts of the state.

The police spokesperson identified three of the suspects as Abiodun Michael, Olaoluwa Pamole and Ahmed Ismail.

He stated that a search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of a firearm, live ammunition and several personal belongings suspected to have been stolen from victims.

Among the items recovered from the suspects was one Magnum pump action gun loaded with six live cartridges.

Police also recovered several mobile phones of different brands and models, including iPhone 17, iPhone 16, iPhone 15, iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 13, iPhone XR and iPhone 8.

Other devices found in the suspects’ possession include Tecno Camon, Tecno CKG, Tecno Spark 20 and Tecno CM6 mobile phones.

The police further recovered five Redmi phones, a Samsung Galaxy S10 smartphone, a Wi-Fi device, a power bank and an Oraimo radio.

In addition to the electronic items, officers also recovered four wristwatches and a cash sum of ₦130,000 believed to be proceeds from criminal activities.

Ayanlade explained that the arrests were made as part of the command’s ongoing efforts to combat robbery and other forms of criminal activity across the state.

He noted that investigations are currently underway to determine the full extent of the suspects’ involvement in robbery incidents within Ibadan and other parts of Oyo State.

In a related development, the police spokesperson also revealed that two additional suspects were arrested in connection with the theft of a motorcycle in Ido Local Government Area.

The suspects were identified as Sanusi Audu and Amisu Sani.

According to the police, the two suspects were apprehended following investigations into the reported theft of a motorcycle in Lapade village via Ile-Ido.

Ayanlade said preliminary interrogation of the suspects revealed that they allegedly stole the motorcycle from where it had been parked in the community before attempting to dispose of it.

“During preliminary interrogation, the suspects confessed to stealing the motorcycle from where it was parked at Lapade village via Ile-Ido in Ibadan,” he said.

He added that both suspects have been taken into police custody while further investigations continue.

The police spokesperson noted that detectives are working to determine whether the suspects are linked to other criminal activities within the area.

Authorities also assured residents that the command remains committed to tackling crime and ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.

The police therefore urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.

They also encouraged residents to cooperate with law enforcement authorities by providing credible information that could assist in preventing crime and apprehending criminal suspects.
