A former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has called on members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to accept the caretaker committee reportedly backed by Nyesom Wike and focus on reconciliation within the party.

Lamido said the PDP must place unity above internal disagreements if it hopes to regain political strength ahead of future elections. He noted that prolonged factional disputes and leadership tussles have weakened the party’s cohesion and public perception.

According to him, party stakeholders should see the caretaker arrangement as an opportunity to stabilise the PDP and rebuild trust among members rather than deepen divisions. Lamido stressed that reconciliation and dialogue remain the best path forward for the opposition party.

The former governor urged leaders at all levels to engage in constructive discussions and avoid actions capable of further polarising the party. He warned that unresolved internal conflicts could undermine the PDP’s ability to effectively challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Lamido also appealed to aggrieved members to set aside personal interests and work collectively to restore the party’s structure and credibility. He emphasised that the PDP’s strength historically lies in its broad coalition of political interests and leaders across the country.

Political observers say the call for reconciliation comes at a time when tensions remain within the party following disputes over leadership and strategic direction. Some stakeholders have expressed concerns over the influence of Wike and the direction of party reforms.

However, Lamido maintained that unity and compromise are essential if the PDP intends to remain a formidable force in Nigeria’s political landscape.

He concluded by urging party leaders to prioritise the survival and growth of the PDP over individual ambitions, insisting that reconciliation will ultimately strengthen the party ahead of future political contests.
