Former Nigerian Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership and the efforts of his administration in tackling key national challenges, particularly in the areas of the economy and security.
Gowon made the remarks on Saturday after paying a courtesy visit to the president at the Presidential Villa, where he met with Tinubu and discussed issues concerning the country’s development.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the meeting, the elder statesman said he visited the State House to personally commend the president and show appreciation for what he described as the positive work being carried out by the administration.
According to Gowon, the government’s efforts to address Nigeria’s economic difficulties and improve national security deserve recognition and encouragement. He noted that the current administration has taken steps aimed at stabilizing the economy and strengthening the country’s response to security challenges affecting various parts of the nation.

The former leader said his visit was also an opportunity to express support for the president’s commitment to steering the country toward stability and progress.
“I came to express my appreciation to the president for the good work he is doing for the country,” Gowon said, while highlighting the importance of national unity and collective effort in overcoming the country’s challenges.
Gowon, who led Nigeria between 1966 and 1975, remains one of the country’s most respected elder statesmen and continues to play an advisory role in national matters through his advocacy for peace, unity and good governance.
His visit to the Presidential Villa adds to a series of engagements between President Tinubu and prominent national figures as the administration continues consultations on governance and national development.
Observers say such interactions with former leaders are significant in strengthening dialogue and drawing from the experience of past administrations as the government pursues reforms in the economy and security sectors.
