The Federal Government has fulfilled its promise to reward members of Nigeria’s women’s national basketball team, D’Tigress, with the presentation of house documents and confirmation of national honours to the players.
The presentation took place in Lyon, France, where the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, alongside the Commission’s Director General, Bukola Olopade, handed over the documents to members of the team on behalf of the Federal Government.
The gesture fulfils a commitment made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reward the players for their remarkable achievements and consistent success on the international basketball stage.
Officials said the symbolic presentation in Lyon was aimed at recognising the athletes while they are engaged in international duties in Europe, ensuring that the government’s pledge was honoured without delay.
Speaking during the presentation, the NSC chairman commended the players for raising Nigeria’s flag high in global basketball competitions and described them as ambassadors who continue to inspire young athletes across the country.
He noted that the Federal Government remains committed to improving the welfare of athletes and ensuring that those who bring glory to the nation are duly recognised and rewarded.
The Director General of the commission also praised the team for their discipline, teamwork, and dedication, stressing that the recognition was part of broader efforts by the government to reposition sports development and motivate athletes to achieve greater success.
Members of the team expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for fulfilling its promise, describing the gesture as a strong encouragement for Nigerian athletes competing on the global stage.
D’Tigress have enjoyed an impressive run in African and international basketball competitions, establishing themselves as one of the most dominant women’s teams on the continent and earning admiration from sports fans at home and abroad.
