At least three people have been confirmed dead and 11 others injured following an attack by suspected bandits on Jikamashi town in Musawa Local Government Area.

The incident was confirmed by the spokesperson of the Katsina State Police Command, Aliyu Abubakar, in a statement issued on Wednesday.

According to the police, the attack occurred on March 10 at about 6:05 p.m. when suspected bandits armed with dangerous weapons invaded the community, causing panic among residents.

Abubakar explained that the police in Musawa received a distress call from residents reporting that the armed attackers had stormed Jikamashi village and were already assaulting members of the community.

He said the attackers had injured several people before the arrival of security personnel.

According to the police spokesperson, a total of 14 residents sustained injuries during the attack before security agencies were able to intervene.

“Fourteen persons were injured before the arrival of security operatives,” Abubakar said while recounting the sequence of events.

Upon receiving the report, a joint security team led by the Divisional Police Officer in Musawa was immediately mobilised to the area.

The police said the security team moved swiftly to the affected community and confronted the attackers in an exchange of gunfire.
During the operation, security operatives reportedly engaged the bandits in a gun battle, forcing them to retreat from the community.

Authorities said the swift intervention of the security team helped to prevent further casualties and damage to property within the town.

Following the attack, the injured victims were evacuated and rushed to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment.

However, medical personnel later confirmed that three of the victims who sustained severe injuries eventually died from their wounds.

Police authorities disclosed that the remaining 11 victims are currently receiving treatment at the hospital and are responding positively to medical care.
Residents of the affected community were said to have been thrown into mourning following the tragic incident.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Bello Shehu, has strongly condemned the attack on the community.
The police commissioner described the assault as a criminal act that would not be tolerated by security agencies.

Shehu assured residents that the police and other security agencies are committed to protecting lives and property across Katsina State.

He further directed a full investigation into the incident with the aim of identifying and apprehending those responsible for the attack.

According to the police command, security patrols have also been intensified in the area and surrounding communities to prevent further attacks.

The commissioner urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could help in tracking down criminal elements operating in the area.

He also reassured the public that the police and other security forces would continue working together to maintain peace and security in the state.

Banditry has remained one of the major security challenges in several parts of northern Nigeria, with communities frequently targeted by armed groups involved in attacks, kidnappings and other violent crimes.

Authorities say efforts are ongoing to strengthen security operations in affected areas and protect residents from further violence.
