Senator Ireti Kingibe

The Wuse Ward chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the Federal Capital Territory has suspended Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the FCT in the National Assembly, over alleged anti-party activities.

The suspension, announced at a ward executive meeting in Wuse, Abuja, takes immediate effect and will remain in force indefinitely pending review by the party’s higher leadership.

Ward Chairman Kanayo Chukwu said the decision followed complaints from grassroots members, noting that the senator was found culpable of “anti-party activities, insubordination and violation of party rules.” He added that the suspension bars Kingibe from participating in ward events or representing the ADC locally.

Chukwu emphasized that the resolution was necessary to maintain discipline and internal order within the party. He explained that the allegations were carefully reviewed before the decision was reached, which is expected to provoke political reactions in the FCT, where Kingibe is considered a prominent opposition figure.

Kingibe, who joined the ADC after leaving the Labour Party over internal disputes, had been active in opposition politics within the territory. Efforts to obtain a response from the senator were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.

Party officials noted that the suspension could be revisited by ADC leadership at the area council and national levels, leaving open the possibility of a reversal depending on further review. The development highlights ongoing tensions within opposition ranks in the FCT ahead of upcoming political contests.

This marks a significant move by the Wuse Ward leadership to enforce party discipline and may shape the dynamics of local political alignments in the nation’s capital.
