Bayelsa State is preparing to host athletes and fitness enthusiasts from across Nigeria and beyond as the Yenagoa City 10KM International Race is set to take place on April 4, 2026, in what organisers describe as a major sporting event aimed at promoting wellness, tourism and youth engagement.
The race will start from Obollo Roundabout and end at Peace Park Square in Yenagoa, where a post-race concert and cultural activities have been scheduled to entertain participants and spectators. Officials say the event is expected to draw elite runners, amateur athletes and health-conscious residents eager to take part in the competition.
Organisers disclosed that the race is designed to encourage healthy living while also positioning Bayelsa as a destination for sports tourism and international competitions. According to the planning committee, the event will feature both professional and recreational categories, allowing a wide range of participants to compete for prizes and recognition.
The Bayelsa State Government said hosting the international race reflects its commitment to youth development and sports promotion, noting that sporting activities remain a key tool for social inclusion and economic growth. Authorities added that the competition will also provide an opportunity to showcase the culture and hospitality of the state to visitors from different parts of the world.

Registration for the race has already begun, with interested participants able to sign up at the Ministry of Sports Complex in Yenagoa or through the official online registration portal provided by the organisers. Officials confirmed that race kits will be distributed between April 1 and April 3 at Peace Park, the venue for the finishing ceremony.
Security agencies and emergency services are also expected to be on ground during the event to ensure safety along the race route, while traffic control measures will be introduced to allow smooth movement of runners and spectators.
Sports analysts say events such as the Yenagoa City 10KM race are becoming increasingly popular across Nigeria, as more states invest in road races, marathons and fitness festivals to promote healthy lifestyles and attract visitors.
Organisers expressed optimism that the April 4 race will become an annual international sporting event capable of drawing global attention to Bayelsa State and strengthening its reputation as a growing centre for athletics and recreational sports in Nigeria.
