Witness Exonerates Yahaya Bello While Court Reviews Disputed Document

A witness in an ongoing court case involving former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello has testified in a manner that appears to absolve the former governor of direct involvement in the allegations under review, as the court simultaneously examined a controversial document presented as evidence.

During proceedings, the witness reportedly stated that the transactions and administrative actions under scrutiny were not personally authorized by Bello, suggesting instead that they were handled through official government channels and administrative processes.

The testimony formed part of the defence’s effort to challenge claims linking the former governor directly to the alleged financial irregularities that prompted the legal action.

Legal representatives for Bello argued that the witness’s statement reinforces their position that the accusations against their client lack sufficient factual basis. According to the defence team, the evidence presented so far demonstrates that the former governor did not personally benefit from the transactions in question.

Prosecutors, however, urged the court to examine the broader chain of authorization and responsibility within the state administration during Bello’s tenure. They maintained that senior officials, including the governor, could still bear accountability for financial decisions made under their authority.
