President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday reassured Nigerians that the country’s unity and sovereignty remain firm despite security challenges, declaring that terrorists and other agents of instability will not succeed in undermining the nation.

The President gave the assurance while hosting religious and traditional leaders at an interfaith breaking of the fast at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he commended them for their role in fostering peace, moral guidance and stability across communities.

Addressing the gathering, Tinubu acknowledged the persistent threat posed by terrorists but insisted that the government and security forces remain resolute in confronting them.

“Yes, we are challenged; the terrorists are very desperate now because they are getting barraged and defeated, they leave trails of blood in their wake. But I assure you of one thing: Nigeria will never surrender,” the President said.

He stressed that despite the difficulties facing the country, his administration remains determined to restore stability and ensure long-term prosperity for citizens.

Tinubu also expressed gratitude to Nigerians for the opportunity to lead the country, pledging to remain committed to delivering on the mandate entrusted to him.

“I am just grateful, one person among millions, that I have been given the opportunity to serve. All I can do is promise that I will continue to be faithful in discharging my duty,” he said.

The President added that the nation’s economy has begun to recover from earlier challenges, noting that his administration has implemented reforms aimed at stabilizing public finances and improving welfare.

“I can report that the economy has turned the corner. It is getting better. Pensioners are getting their relief gradually. We have saved Nigeria from bankruptcy,” Tinubu said.

According to him, when the administration assumed office, the economic situation was daunting, but decisive steps taken by the government have helped restore confidence and financial stability.

He noted that state governments are no longer struggling to secure loans from banks to pay workers’ salaries, describing it as a sign that fiscal conditions have improved.

Tinubu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustained investment in critical sectors such as agriculture and education to ensure long-term national development.

He urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and united, assuring them that the government is focused on building a safer and more prosperous country.

In his remarks, the Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar, thanked the President for hosting leaders of the two major religions at the event, describing the gathering as a strong symbol of national unity.

He offered prayers for peace, stability and divine guidance for the country and its leadership.

Also speaking, the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Daniel Okoh, pledged the church’s support for the administration’s efforts to transform the economy and strengthen national security.

Religious and traditional leaders from the six geopolitical zones attended the interfaith gathering.
