Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side, Katsina United, has threatened to take legal action against its leading striker, Uche Collins, declaring the player Absent Without Official Leave (AWOL) following a sudden disappearance from the club.
According to club officials, the forward has been completely absent from all team activities since February 22, 2026, when he last featured in a league match against Rangers International at the Mohammed Dikko Stadium. Management’s concerns grew after discovering that Collins had vacated his club-provided accommodation without notifying anyone.
Katsina United Chairman Surajo Baba addressed the situation, stating that the player’s unexcused absence constitutes a severe breach of contract. He also addressed growing speculation that Collins is secretly attempting to engineer a transfer overseas.
“The player has been absent from the club’s activities without official permission since February 22nd, 2026, when he participated in our match against Rangers International Football Club,” Baba stated.
The chairman emphasized that the striker remains legally bound to the Katsina-based outfit and issued a stern warning to potential suitors.

“We’ve received rumors that he’s in talks with a European club, but let me make it clear: Uche Collins is a Katsina United player, and he has a binding contract with us until the end of the 2026/2027 football season,” he warned. “We warn any club entertaining the idea of poaching him to think twice, lest they face legal consequences and disciplinary action.”
The club has officially reported the matter to the relevant football authorities. They have also taken the preemptive step of requesting that Collins’ International Transfer Certificate (ITC) be withheld until the ongoing dispute is fully resolved, effectively blocking him from playing for any foreign club.
“Uche’s actions are a clear breach of contract, contravening NPFL regulations, the Commercial Framework, and FIFA’s rules. We’re taking this very seriously,” Baba said. He added, “We appreciate the support of our fans and stakeholders and assure them of our commitment to resolving this matter in accordance with the rules and regulations governing the sport.”
Despite the off-field distraction, Katsina United, currently sitting ninth on the NPFL table remains focused on their domestic campaign as they prepare to host Kwara United in a Matchday 29 fixture at the Mohammed Dikko Stadium on Sunday.
