Thousands of women in Akwa Ibom State have endorsed the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, throwing their support behind his administration during the celebration of the 2026 International Women’s Day in Uyo.
The event, held in the state capital, attracted over 5,000 women and was attended by Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, alongside top government officials and political leaders.
During the gathering, the women also endorsed the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, for another term in office, expressing confidence in their leadership and commitment to development.

In her keynote address, the First Lady described the theme of this year’s celebration “Rights, Justice, Action for All Women and Girls” as a call for collective efforts to promote gender equality and empower women across the country.
She stressed that protecting the rights of women and girls through education, economic empowerment, healthcare, and social protection is essential for national development.
According to her, investing in women translates to stronger families, more prosperous communities, and a more inclusive nation.
“I encourage every woman here to be a positive force for change in your homes, businesses, communities and across the state. When women lead with purpose, the entire nation feels the impact,” she said.
The First Lady also urged Nigerians to support ongoing reforms by the federal government, noting that the policies introduced by the Tinubu administration were aimed at laying a strong foundation for long-term national prosperity.
“The reforms already started by this administration are designed to create a lasting legacy of transformation and prosperity for all Nigerians. A house is not built in a day, but when the foundation is solid, the structure will stand the test of time,” she added.
Speaking at the event, Senate President Akpabio commended women for their crucial role in building stable families and communities, noting that their contributions remain central to national development.
Governor Eno also acknowledged the impact of women in society, stating that the progress of any nation is closely tied to the empowerment and participation of women.
The highlight of the celebration was the formal endorsement of Tinubu, Akpabio, and Eno for another term in office. The declaration was read by the state’s Deputy Governor, Akon Eyakenyi, alongside other prominent women leaders in the state.
Earlier in the day, the First Lady commissioned an ultra-modern Senior Citizens Centre in Uyo named in her honour. The facility, conceptualised by the late wife of the governor, Pastor Patience Eno, is designed to provide healthcare services, recreation, and social support for elderly citizens.
Tinubu commended the initiative and urged other states to adopt similar programmes that promote care and dignity for senior citizens.
