President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Super Eagles for securing the bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after defeating Egypt in a penalty shootout on Saturday.
In a statement released by the State House, the President praised the team for bouncing back from their semi-final loss to host nation Morocco and finishing the tournament on a strong note. Nigeria held their nerve to overcome the seven-time champions after regular time ended in a draw, sealing third place through penalties.
President Tinubu said the victory reflected the determination and resilience associated with the Nigerian spirit, noting that the players refused to be discouraged by the disappointment of missing out on the final.
He acknowledged that the semi-final defeat had dashed the hopes of many Nigerians but commended the team for remaining focused and determined to end the tournament with a medal.
The President added that Nigerians would be proud as the team receives their bronze medals on Sunday in Rabat, describing the achievement as well deserved and a reward for their persistence throughout the competition.
He thanked the players for their efforts and patriotism, saying the bronze medal “feels good like gold” and stands as a reminder of what the team can achieve with unity and resolve.
