Edo State Police Command has disrupted a notorious kidnapping network, arresting 65 suspects and recovering N1.8 million in cash, the force confirmed yesterday. The operation, conducted in Benin City and surrounding towns, targeted criminal gangs linked to recent abductions in the state.
According to the Edo State Police Commissioner, CP Johnson Uba, intelligence-led raids uncovered hideouts used for detaining victims and storing ransom proceeds. “This successful operation is part of our commitment to protect lives and property. The suspects are now in custody, and investigations are ongoing to bring all accomplices to justice,” he said.

Among the recovered items were mobile phones, motorcycles, and other paraphernalia commonly used in kidnapping operations. Police also confirmed that several individuals who had been reported missing have been safely rescued.
Community leaders in affected areas praised the law enforcement efforts, urging residents to collaborate with security agencies by providing timely information. “Kidnapping has terrorized our communities. We are relieved that the police are taking decisive action,” said Chief Oghene Egbe, a local elder.
The Edo State government reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward kidnapping and promised enhanced support for security operations, including the provision of modern surveillance equipment and additional personnel to vulnerable communities.
Authorities have called on other states to emulate Edo’s proactive approach, noting that intelligence-driven policing remains a key tool in tackling organized crime.
