The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream I Orientation Course will commence nationwide on Wednesday, January 21, across all 37 NYSC orientation camps in the country.
The scheme disclosed that prospective corps members are expected to report to their designated orientation camps on the stated date to begin the mandatory three-week programme, which marks the formal start of national service for the batch. The NYSC said all preparations are in place to ensure a smooth, safe and well-coordinated exercise across the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the NYSC, the orientation course is designed to instil discipline, foster national unity and equip corps members with essential skills for leadership, community development and entrepreneurship. Activities during the camp include paramilitary drills, physical training, lectures on national ethics, leadership development, and skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development (SAED) programmes.
The scheme urged prospective corps members to check the NYSC portal regularly for updates on deployment, registration guidelines and camp requirements. It also advised them to print their call-up letters and ensure they report to camp with the necessary documents, including valid identification, academic credentials and medical fitness certificates from recognised government hospitals.

NYSC officials stressed that strict compliance with camp rules and regulations would be enforced throughout the orientation period. Corps members were reminded to adhere to safety guidelines and conduct themselves responsibly, noting that the welfare and security of participants remain a top priority for the scheme.
The NYSC further cautioned prospective corps members against patronising touts or unauthorised agents, warning that all official information would be communicated solely through its verified channels. It encouraged participants to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to camp officials upon arrival.
State coordinators across the country have also been directed to ensure that orientation camps are adequately equipped with essential facilities, including accommodation, medical services and security, ahead of the commencement date. The scheme said it is working closely with relevant security agencies and state governments to guarantee a hitch-free exercise.
The NYSC Orientation Course is a compulsory component of the one-year national service programme established to promote national integration and youth development. Successful completion of the camp is required before corps members proceed to their primary assignments in various public and private sector organisations nationwide.
