The Lagos State Government has announced plans to construct a N7 billion jetty at the Oworonshoki waterfront as part of efforts to expand water transport infrastructure and ease pressure on the state’s road network.

The Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Dayo Bush-Alebiosu, disclosed the plan, noting that the proposed jetty is designed to improve connectivity across key waterways while supporting economic activity in the area.

According to the commissioner, the project aligns with the state’s broader transportation strategy, which prioritises safer, faster, and more efficient alternatives to road travel. He said the Oworonshoki location was selected because of its strategic importance as a major link between the mainland and island corridors.

Bush-Alebiosu explained that beyond transportation, the jetty is expected to stimulate local commerce, create jobs during and after construction, and enhance waterfront safety through improved facilities and regulation.

He added that the state government is also paying attention to environmental considerations, assuring residents that the project will comply with existing shoreline protection and sustainability standards.

When completed, the Oworonshoki jetty will add to Lagos’ growing network of public jetties, reinforcing the government’s push to unlock the economic potential of the state’s vast inland waterways.
