INEC officials emphasized the importance of registering to vote, noting that participation in the exercise is a civic duty that ensures residents can exercise their franchise and influence the democratic process. The commission also highlighted that registration is essential for first-time voters, those who have changed addresses, and citizens seeking to update their voter information.

Speaking at a briefing, an INEC spokesperson urged Lagosians to visit designated registration centers across the state, stressing that the exercise is free, transparent, and accessible to all eligible residents. The spokesperson also assured that necessary measures have been put in place to ensure efficiency and safety at the registration sites.

Residents are encouraged to carry valid means of identification, such as a national ID card, passport, or driver’s license, to facilitate smooth registration. INEC further reminded citizens that registration is a prerequisite for participation in all forthcoming elections, including local, state, and national contests.

The commission also appealed to community leaders, civil society groups, and youth organizations to assist in mobilizing eligible voters, particularly in areas with historically low registration turnout.

INEC has affirmed its commitment to conducting a credible and inclusive voter registration exercise, aimed at fostering greater participation in Nigeria’s democratic process.
