Gov. Siminalayi Fubara

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has broken his silence over the impeachment moves against him, urging residents of the state to remain calm as events unfold at the State House of Assembly.

The governor spoke on Sunday during a church service in Port Harcourt held to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day. Addressing the congregation, Fubara assured Rivers people that the political situation would be resolved, stressing that there was no cause for panic.

He explained that his decision to stay quiet since the impeachment process began was deliberate, noting that his confidence and resilience are anchored in his faith in God. According to him, silence should not be mistaken for weakness or fear.

Fubara also referenced remarks he made earlier at the New Year banquet held at the Government House, where he said “dogs bark when they do not understand,” suggesting that much of the noise around the crisis is driven by misunderstanding rather than substance.

The governor did not directly address the specifics of the impeachment allegations but emphasized the need for peace and stability in the state, particularly at a time meant for national reflection and remembrance.

Moves by the Rivers State House of Assembly to impeach Fubara have heightened political tension in the state, drawing attention from political observers and stakeholders across the country. Despite the uncertainty, the governor’s public appearance and message appear aimed at reassuring citizens and preventing any breakdown of law and order.

Armed Forces Remembrance Day is observed annually to honour fallen Nigerian soldiers, and the church service formed part of activities marking the 2026 commemoration in Rivers State.
