The Amanyanabo of Torusarama Piri in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State, Asari Dokubo, has pledged his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, promising to mobilise widespread backing for the president.
Dokubo made the declaration during a visit by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to his palace as part of what was described as a “thank you tour.” He said he would work alongside the Rivers State Elders Council to rally support for Tinubu across the state.
The traditional ruler and former militant leader also affirmed his alignment with the “Renewed Hope Family” initiative championed by Wike, noting that the group’s objectives were in line with his commitment to the president’s success.
Explaining his decision, Dokubo said President Tinubu stood by him during some of the most challenging periods of his life, a gesture he described as a bond he was determined to honour.
He said his support was a way of reciprocating the goodwill and long-standing relationship he has shared with the president over the years.

“Everything that is going to happen, I will be with you in making sure that my friend, the President, succeeds,” Dokubo said. “Everything that I am capable of doing, I will do to make sure that he succeeds.”
Reflecting on his personal journey, he added, “I was not a traditional ruler when we met in 1992. I never thought I would become what I am today. He stood by me in my most difficult period, and now it is my turn to stand by him.”
The visit by the FCT minister and Dokubo’s endorsement further highlight ongoing political alignments in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
