Two-time world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua is currently undergoing intensive physical therapy and treatment on his ribs as he continues his recovery from a devastating car crash in Nigeria.
The fatal accident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on December 29, just ten days after Joshua secured a dominant sixth-round knockout victory over Jake Paul in Miami.
While the British-Nigerian boxer survived with minor injuries and was discharged from the hospital two days later, the crash tragically claimed the lives of his personal trainer, Kevin “Latz” Ayodele, and his long-time recovery therapist, Sina Ghami.
Joshua subsequently flew back to the United Kingdom to attend the funerals of his close friends and colleagues.
Sharing updates on his recovery journey, the 36-year-old recently posted snapshots on Snapchat showing the painful-looking rib treatments. He captioned the post, “Rehabilitation protocol. When you go thru (through) certain things, you realise that you are stronger than you think you are.”

Meanwhile, the legal proceedings surrounding the crash are ongoing. The case against the driver of the vehicle, Adeniyi Kayode, has been officially adjourned until March 13 at a magistrate’s court located in Sagamu, Ogun State.
Given his physical therapy and the emotional toll of the tragedy, Joshua’s immediate return to the boxing ring has been delayed.
Representatives for the former champion noted that while a late summer return is anticipated, he is not yet physically fit to resume full training camp. Options are currently being explored to potentially get him back in the ring by July.
Fellow British heavyweight and reigning WBC champion Tyson Fury has also weighed in on the situation, definitively ruling out a highly anticipated clash with his rival for the time being.
Expressing his sympathy, Fury stated, “I’m not interested in going toe-to-toe with somebody who’s in a bad place at the moment. I’ve been in a bad place many, many times. I wish them boys all the best.” Fury is instead preparing for an April bout against Arslanbek Makhmudov, which will be broadcast on Netflix.
