The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) officially burst into life on Sunday night with a colourful opening ceremony headlined by Nigerian music superstar Davido, setting an energetic tone for Africa’s biggest football tournament.
The opening concert, held at the tournament’s main stadium, drew thousands of fans and dignitaries, combining football, music, and African cultural expression in a spectacular showcase. Davido thrilled the crowd with a high-energy performance of some of his biggest hits, igniting excitement ahead of the month-long competition.
Organisers said the choice of Davido underscored AFCON’s growing global appeal and its commitment to blending sport with entertainment.
