Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has renewed the tenure of Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi as Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security & Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for a new five-year term, effective Friday, February 27, 2026. Dr Audi will resume his duties on Monday with a renewed mandate to strengthen the corps’ role in national security.

Dr Audi was first appointed to the position in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari. His initial five-year term concluded last week during activities commemorating the 2026 World Civil Defence Day at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja.

President Tinubu charged the Commandant-General to reposition the service to play a more prominent role in Nigeria’s security architecture, particularly as the police concentrate on their core responsibilities of protecting citizens against bandits, kidnappers, and terrorist threats.

Born on September 30, 1967, in Laminga Town, Nasarawa State, Dr Audi began his education locally before attending Teachers’ College in Jengre, Plateau State, where he earned a Teachers’ Grade II Certificate in 1987. He later obtained a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) from the College of Education, Akwanga, in 1992.

Dr Audi holds a bachelor’s degree in Physical and Health Education from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1995), a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Calabar (2001), and a PhD in Public Administration from Nasarawa State University, Keffi (2014). He also earned a Master’s in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice (MLCJ) from Ahmadu Bello University in 2019.

His career in the NSCDC began in November 1996 as a volunteer. After completing basic officer training in 1997, he was deployed as a Divisional Officer in Obi Local Government Area, Nasarawa State. Over the years, he served in multiple state commands and, in 2007, was promoted to the rank of Commandant and assigned to the office of the Commandant-General at the National Headquarters in Abuja.

Dr Audi’s reappointment is viewed as a continuation of efforts to strengthen the NSCDC’s operational capacity and expand its contribution to national security, complementing other security agencies in tackling crime and civil unrest across the country.

Officials emphasize that his renewed leadership will focus on strategic planning, personnel development, and community engagement to enhance the corps’ effectiveness in safeguarding lives and property nationwide.
