Taiwo Oyedele, Doris Anite-Uzoka

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Taiwo Oyedele as the Minister of State for Finance, replacing Dr Doris Anite-Uzoka, who will now serve as Minister of State at the Ministry of Budget and National Planning.

The nomination was formally communicated to the Nigerian Senate in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Oyedele’s confirmation is now pending Senate approval.

Until this appointment, Oyedele, a native of Ikaram, Akoko in Ondo State, chaired the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he played a key role in overhauling Nigeria’s tax system. His experience in fiscal policy and taxation reform has positioned him as a leading figure in Nigeria’s economic management.

Oyedele, 50, is an accomplished economist, accountant, and public policy expert. He holds a Higher National Diploma (HND) in accountancy and finance from Yaba College of Technology and a BSc in applied accounting from Oxford Brookes University. He has also completed executive education programmes at prestigious institutions, including the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.

Professionally, Oyedele spent 22 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), joining in 2001 and rising to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. His tenure at PwC provided him with extensive experience in tax policy, corporate finance, and strategic economic advisory services.

In addition to his professional career, Oyedele is a professor at Babcock University and a visiting scholar at Lagos Business School, contributing to the academic development of future economists and public policy experts.

Analysts say Oyedele’s appointment reflects President Tinubu’s focus on fiscal reforms, economic stability, and expertise-driven governance. His experience in both public policy and private sector finance is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s financial management and revenue systems, while advancing national economic objectives.

The Senate confirmation of Oyedele is highly anticipated, as stakeholders await the formal assumption of office and implementation of his strategic agenda for the Ministry of Finance.
